ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION CONDITION REPORTS
TRUST US TO ANALYSE YOUR ELECTRICAL WORKS
An EICR, also known as an Electrical Inspection Condition Report, is a comprehensive inspection of your home’s electrical systems and installation. Like anything, electrical installations in your home are subject to deterioration, ageing and general wear and tear. This is why electrical inspections and tests should be conducted on a regular basis.
While carrying out EICR checks in homes electrical installations we will find out if you have any faults that are unidentifiable with a simple visual check. A number of faults could occur, such as electrical circuits overheating or becoming overloaded during use. If an electrical circuit is not installed properly – for example, a circuit breaker or if there are any lose connection behind your switches and sockets it could potentially lead to a fire or shock hazard. Regulars inspection and testing will pinpoint any defective electrical work in your home’s system.

WHAT DOES AN EICR CONSIST OF?
During and EICR report we will carry out visual checks as well as electrical testing. Visual checks will include the following looking at switches, sockets, light fittings, electrical appliances to see whatever there is any cracked cases or anything that can potential lead to a future hazard. We will also check the consumer unit to make sure that there is no potential risk of electric shock or potential fire from lose terminals. We will also check the entire wiring earth and bonding to make sure that they complies with the safety regulations.
Electrical testing consists of a number of testing procedures such as checking the continuity of your CPC (earthing cable) and make sure that it’s continuous throughout the entire electrical installation starting from the Consumer unit. After that we will send an electrical current typically 500 volts through a circuit to measure the resistance and measuring the insulation of the wiring. We will also check to make sure that all the wiring are installed in the correct terminals called (polarity) and finally if the RCD test button operates and that it trips within the correct time and specifications according to the values given by the Wiring regulations.

IF AN EICR RETURNS NEGATIVE
- C1 – this means ‘danger is present’, there is a likely risk of injury and action is required immediately.
- C2 – potentially dangerous with remedial action needed urgently.
- C3 – improvements to your electrical system are recommended. This is the only code that can appear on an EICR report and still pass the test
TOP TIP: Some people call an EICR a landlord safety certificate which refers to the EICR however the correct terminology is EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Report).
